Superstar Rajinikanth has once again proved that finding a worthy successor who can replicate his box-office dominance remains elusive. Even during weekdays, his latest film Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, continues to maintain a consistent and impressive performance in theatres. On Thursday, which marked the eighth day of its release, Jailer recorded India nett collection of Rs 10 crore, according to early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk. This effectively pushed the actioner's first-week earnings in the domestic market to an impressive Rs 235.65 crore. Among the various iterations of Jailer, the Tamil version has so far amassed Rs 186.05 crore, the Telugu version Rs 46.99 crore, and both the Kannada and Hindi adaptations Rs 1.9 crore each. On Thursday, the Tamil actioner achieved a cumulative 32.70 per cent Tamil occupancy. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie witnessed a 19.37 per cent occupancy within the Tamil market. However, as the day unfolded, the percentages experienced a consistent increase: rising to 28.50 per cent during the afternoon showings, reaching 40.37 per cent during the evening shows, and peaking at 42.54 per cent for the night screenings. Currently, the sole significant contender that equals the remarkable box office triumph of Jailer is Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, which is dominating the box office in the northern states. Jailer has Rajinikanth essaying a man out to avenge the death of his cop son. The film has Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff in important cameos. The action-packed entertainer also stars Priyanka Mohan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi and Vinayakan. Pointing out that Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar rediscover the alchemy of a good masala film with Jailer, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his review of the film: “Jailer is Rajinikanth’s version of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, but with a twist. Saying that doesn’t take away anything from this fun-filled entertainer.”
