Indian 2’s box office collection on day five saw the film stabalise after a massive fall on the critical first Monday, but not in a way that will helps the Kamal Haasan-starrer in salvaging its performance. The Shankar-directed movie earned just Rs 3 crore on its fifth day of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

With this, the total five-day collections of Indian 2 stand at Rs 65.15 cr. Globally, the vigilante film has grossed over Rs 117 cr. The film’s poor box office performance across all versions — Tamil, Telugu, Hindi — has effectively put an end to its prospects, especially in the north. This Friday, the film will likely be wiped out by Vicky Kaushal-led Bad Newz. The comedy also stars Triptii Dimri and Amy Virk.

Despite being a much-awaited sequel which featured Kamal Haasan reprising his role of the vigilante Senapathy, Indian 2 opened to poor reviews and discouraging word of mouth, which dented its chances on the opening day itself. The movie made Rs 25.6 cr on day one.

By comparison, last year’s Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer had opened at Rs 48.35 cr, while Vijay’s Leo had a smashing Thursday opening of Rs 64.8 cr– which is how much Indian 2 has earned in five days. Shankar’s previous film, 2.0, had minted Rs 60. 25 cr on its opening day itself.

Indian 2’s Hindi collections have also been a shocker, failing to cross Rs 4 cr in five days. Leo, despite not playing at national multiplex chains in the Hindi belt, had still minted Rs 32 cr in its lifetime run. Indian 2 released alongside the Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira, which is also a washout at Rs 15.70 cr so far.

In Indian 2, Kamal Haasan reprises his role as Senapathy, an ageing freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption. The sequel to the 1996 film also starred Siddharth, SJ Suryah and Rakul Preet Singh among others. A third instalment of the film is expected to release next year.
