As the 142-second promo video progresses, we see the prediction made by Murugan’s mother come true as he returns to run his family’s idli shop, with the help of Kayal (Nithya Menen). Wait, who’s Kayal, though? Ask Murugan himself this question, and his reply comes in the form of an ear-to-ear smile. As we move forward, we not only see the deep bond between them, but also glimpses of his past at Vishnu Vardhan’s firm, where he and the latter’s son, Ashwin (Arun Vijay), were always at loggerheads. Irked by Ashwin’s laid-back attitude, Vishnu Vardhan frequently pesters him to learn a lesson or two from Murugan, which creates in him more resentment towards the latter.

One day, Ashwin even drives down to the idli kadai in his luxury car and mocks the shop as a “rathole.” “It’s not just a shop; it’s the landmark of our locality,” Marisamy (Samuthirakani) points out. As Ashwin vows to bring the shop down, Murugan gears up to protect it with his life, and if that means picking up a machete, he’s ready to do that too.

Also starring R Parthiban and Shalini Pandey in key roles, Idli Kadai is produced jointly by Aakash Baskaran and Dhanush under the banners of Dawn Pictures and Wunderbar Films, respectively. It features music by GV Prakash Kumar, editing by GK Prasanna, cinematography by Kiran Koushik, and action choreography by Peter Hein. The movie will hit the screens on October 1.
