Mani Ratnam praises Sai Pallavi at Amaran audio launch

Right after the blockbuster success of Alphonse Puthran’s Premam (2015), Sai Pallavi became a household name. Such was the impact of the Nivin Pauly-starrer that she earned fame not just in Kerala, but in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, too. Although Sai Pallavi is of Tamil descent, she did one more Malayalam film (Kali) and two Telugu films (Fidaa, Middle Class Abbayi) before making her debut in Tamil with Diya (2018). However, it was director Mani Ratnam who was supposed to launch her in Tamil with his 2017 film, Kaatru Veliyidai.

However, the role was then played by Aditi Rao Hydari. Incidentally, Mani Ratnam was the chief guest at the audio launch of Amaran, which stars Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi in lead roles. “I am a big fan. I hope I get to work with you one day,” said Mani Ratnam. Responding to this praise, Sai Pallavi spoke about how the filmmaker is responsible for her choice of films. “Before coming to cinema, I didn’t know many directors by their names, except Mani Ratnam. In fact, he is one of the reasons I am choosy about scripts and roles.”

The legendary filmmaker also had lovely words to say about Sivakarthikeyan, who is essaying the role of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan in the biopic. “Some actors become big heroes right after their debut. Some others have to climb the ladder of success step by step. On that front, you are like the latter… just like me.”
