Aamir Khan’s team denies actor’s involvement in the distribution of Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie: ‘Aamir has not made any calls to any exhibitor’

It was reported that Aamir Khan, who is said to be appearing in an important extended cameo in Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie, went out of his way to call PVR-Inox boss Ajay Bijil, requesting more shows for Coolie in North India.

Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan made headlines with his charismatic appearance at the recent Coolie event in Chennai. Reports have since surfaced claiming that Aamir has stepped in to help secure wider screen distribution for the Rajinikanth-starrer in North India. Now, both the actor-filmmaker’s team has issued an official statement addressing the matter.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Aamir Khan, who is reportedly making an extended cameo in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action spectacle Coolie, personally reached out to PVR-Inox head Ajay Bijli, requesting additional shows for the film in North India. This is an unprecedented move from Aamir, who has previously stated that his involvement in the project is a gesture of respect for Rajinikanth. With Coolie set to clash with War 2 over the Independence Day weekend, the development quickly became a major talking point.

On Thursday, Aamir Khan Productions issued an official statement addressing the matter: “Neither Aamir Khan, nor anyone from his team, is involved in the distribution of Coolie. Mr Khan has not made any calls to any exhibitor or distributor. His cameo in the film is purely a gesture of his bond with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth. Everyone at AKP, especially Aamir Khan, is thrilled with the success of Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release and is overjoyed with the response it has received.” There is no saying as to what has transpired, but it will be interesting to see how the business of Coolie will be impacted by all the drama surrounding its release.

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruthi Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. It is all set to hit the screens across the world on August 14.
