‘I took up a TV project because it is on Epic’

Anjum Sharma, who is being seen as Major Arkin Roy in Daanav Hunters on the recently launched Epic channel, was a victim of ‘being filmy’ since childhood. He grew up living and breathing Bollywood. Sharma, who did a small role in Slumdog Millionaire, has been doing theatre for the last few years.
After the formal training in acting, he would now be seen in the adventure series, Daanav Hunters that chronicles the adventures of Professor Vikram Bhagawat and his team who’ve made it their mission to keep and restore peace whenever the daanavs (evil forces) surface. The show has been produced by Telugu film-maker and actor, Prakash Kovelamudi.
Sharma, who plays one of the close aides to Professor Bhagwat, says that his role is very well etched out in the 22 episode series. “There is a larger graph to my character in terms of the story,” says Sharma, who started in theatre with Manav Kaul and went on to do many plays with Makrand Deshpande.
Talking more about the show, Sharma says that it has been shot entirely in Hyderabad as the team wanted to showcase a location that hasn’t been exposed on television before. “Being an action show with fantasy as an integral element, we needed real locations like forts, tombs, etc and Hyderabad was one of the best places for that as 90 per cent of the shoot has been done at real locations,” he shares.
Though very new, the actor doesn’t mince words, when he says that he wouldn’t have done the show had it not been a part of Epic. “For a very long time I was busy doing plays all over the country. I was getting offers for TV show but nothing interesting came my way. I was reluctant in taking up this as well but the scale of this show and the details intrigued me and then things just fell into place,” says the actor, who wouldn’t take up any other project until he gets good reviews for this one.
