Last heard in Bulbuliya for the film 3G in 2013, Adnan Sami is back with his solo, Sweeta in director Shaad Ali’s Kill Dil. After working with Ali in Bunty Aur Babli and Saathiya, the singer is now back in Ali’s next venture with YRF where he lends his voice for Ranveer Singh. After the success that Aye udi udi from Saathiya garnered, one is quite certain that Sweeta coming from the same trio, namely Gulzar, Ali and Sami, who gave us the former, will repeat history. Sweeta brings back many memories for Sami who has also worked with composers Shankar Ehsaan Loy in Salaam E Ishq and Bunty Aur Babli.
“The mood of Sweeta is very playful, peppy number and Gulzar saab has written such beautiful lyrics, the song has got a retro feel to it, and is both romantic and playful. It is a fun song and connects totally with today’s youth,” elaborates Adnan Sami as he explains the feel he tried to create with his newest song.
When asked about why he will be heard after almost a gap of over 18 months, Sami candidly replies, “I felt like taking some time off as I needed to reinvent myself. Besides, I’ve always been selective about my work. I have consciously maintained a 2-3 year gap between my albums as I do not believe in churning out albums every year, or every three months. But this time around, the gap was substantial because of the self-imposed break.”
While talking about his hiatus, Sami also adds how he’s been working non-stop since 1986 and how a break in his career was thus completely justified.
