Best Director

Ravi Jadhav (Balak Palak)

Ravi Jadhav debuted as a director with Natarang, which won the National Award for Best Feature Film in 2009. The film, starring Atul Kulkarni and Sonalee Kulkarni, was based on the emotions related to gender bias and the sacrifices of an artiste for the love of his art.
Jadhav also has, to his credit, Balgandharva, a biographical Marathi film on one of the popular Marathi singers and stage actors Balgandharva. The film won three National Awards at the 59th National Film Awards. Subodh Bhave, who played the title role of Balgandharva, won the Screen award for Best Actor in 2011.
His latest hit film Timepass released on January 3, 2014. He won his first Screen Award for Balak Palak, that released in January 2013.

I have been eyeing the Screen trophy for the last 19 years. I used to look at the hoardings and the show on TV and wish to win one of those awards, some day. And what luck! When I did win the Screen trophy, it was three awards in one go for my film Balak Palak. Looking at the trophy on my shelf at home makes me feel very proud. Screen is the only national weekly which makes note of the work being in done in Marathi f ilms and encourages it. That is a very big thing for Marathi cinema. We get to sit with all the bigwigs of the industry and being appreciated in front of them is a great feeling for us. — Ravi Jadhav, director, Balak Palak

Sachin Khedekar is known as one of the most versatile actors of the Marathi film indsutry. He has some brilliant performances to his credit, in Hindi films as well.
Khedekar has won five Screen trophies till date. His first Screen Best Actor award was for the TV show Sailaab in 1996. He followed it up with a trophy for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose The Forgotten Hero in 2005, Kadachit in 2008 and Mee Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy in 2010. His fifth Screen trophy was for his brilliant performance of a simple down-to-earth politician in Aajcha Divas Majha and a high-voltage portrayal of his first ever double role in Nitish Bhardwaj-directed Pitruroon.

It is a great high, as firstly Screen is impartial when it comes to selecting the deserving and secondly, the Jury treats the whole process like a study. The award season starts with Screen and I believe that if I win a Screen trophy, I probably have a chance to win all the other awards that year. I am glad that my efforts in Aajcha Divas Majha and my first double role in Pitruroon were noticed especially since I was pitted against illustrious actors like Dilip Prabhavalkar, Atul Kulkarni and Girish Kulkarni. Screen is my lucky charm and this is my fifth golden lady. I can proudly claim that not many have got five Screen awards.  — Sachin Khedekar, actor
