Veteran Marathi actor Jyoti Chandekar passed away on Saturday after ‘a brief illness’. She was 69.
Jyoti’s daughter, Tejaswini Pandit, confirmed the news of her mother’s demise on social media. She shared a note in Marathi, which translates into English as, “Mother 💔 Greetings, It is with great sorrow that we inform you that our beloved mother — full of life, cheerful, and making everyone laugh, as well as everyone’s dearest senior actress, Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, has sadly passed away today, on 16th August, at the age of 69, after a brief illness. Her last rites will be held tomorrow, 17th August, at 11 a.m. at Vaikunth Crematorium, Navi Peth, Pune. In grief: Tejaswini Pandit, Purnima Pandit, and the entire Chandekar–Pandit family 🙏.”
Known for her performances in Mee Sindhutai Sapkal, Guru, Ticha Umbartha, Dharmakanya, Dholki, Paoolwaat, Guru, and Tharal Tar Mag, Jyoti Chandekar leaves behind a rich legacy spanning five decades. She was admired for her contributions to cinema, theatre, and television.
