Upendra shares how Aamir Khan supported UI without being asked: ‘He took out his phone and started recording a video for us’

The multi-hyphenate Kannada star Upendra is currently basking in the growing popularity of his latest directorial venture, UI, which has been receiving positive responses from various quarters since its release on December 20. The science fiction dystopian actioner marked his return to film direction after a nine-year hiatus since Uppi 2. Starring Upendra himself in the lead role, the movie had been generating considerable anticipation, which reached unprecedented levels when Bollywood’s “Mr Perfectionist” Aamir Khan expressed his admiration for UI’s trailer. Now, Upendra has shared how deeply he was moved by the Hindi cinema icon’s thoughtful gesture.

Before the movie’s release, Aamir shared his thoughts on UI’s trailer in a selfie video, saying, “Hello everyone, I am with someone I am a big fan of. His film, UI, is releasing on December 20. The trailer of the film is just mind-blowing. I was absolutely blown away by it. Upendra, what a trailer you have made! Unbelievable! I think it’s going to be a huge hit. Even Hindi audiences are going to love it. When I saw the trailer, I was shocked. It’s an amazing trailer. Wishing you all the best.”

Expressing his gratitude for Aamir Khan’s kind gesture, Upendra said, “I was really blessed. I got a chance to meet him and I showed him this trailer. I never expected that he would give even a give a (news) bite. But he called me to his caravan and we started talking. As we were talking, he took out his phone and started recording (the video) and said, ‘You have only 10 days (remaining for the release), right? Use this and do your publicity.’ He blessed me like that. It’s a huge thing for me. He’s a global star and a perfectionist. He values his words; so, when he says, it’s a big thing.”
