Kantara Chapter 1 (Kantara 2) Box Office Collection Day 2: Director and actor Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara, which released in 2022, came under a lot of scrutiny despite its huge box office collection. Millions of explanations later, the second part of the franchise, Kantara Chapter 1, has now released and in two days, it has proved that whatever Shetty is selling, people are willing to buy. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 45 crore on its second day, taking its India net collection to Rs 106.85 crore.

The first Kantara film’s net collection in the first two days came out to be around a measly Rs 4.6 crore, which makes the second film’s theatrical run even more impressive. Even though Kantara went on to earn just over Rs 400 crore worldwide, this film has already covered a quarter of that sum within just 2 days. This sets up the Shetty film for possibly a very lucrative weekend, where the numbers could possibly cross the Rs 200 crore mark.

Earlier this year, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2 released amid much fanfare, and like Kantara Chapter 1, this was also the second part of a much loved franchise. After two days, War 2 had made Rs 110 crore. Kantara Chapter 1 is in the same bracket as the YRF film, which eventually bombed at the box office, even after securing a strong start.

The occupancy for the film remained high throughout the day and averaged out at 82.31%. The morning and afternoon shows achieved rates of 60.03% and 90.73%, while the evening and night shows filled 86.48% and 92% of the seats, respectively. The film had close to 1500 shows in Kannada, with Bengaluru hosting more than 950 shows. Taking into account the number of shows in Bengaluru, the city had a solid occupancy average of 86%. The film also had over 1000 shows in Telugu and a whopping 4683 shows in Hindi, which is more than double the number of shows in the original language.

The answers that Shetty gave about the first film, defending its protagonist, seem to be working. When asked by THR about the misogynistic nature of Shiva, he replied, “That film is about Shiva. Not anybody else. Shiva is not a hero—he is a villain. His character is flawed. His behaviour is questionable, his language is crass, and he has all the bad habits. He didn’t live up to societal expectations, especially those tied to his father’s legacy as a revered daiva nartaka. The story is about his transformation.”

Directed by Shetty himself, the cast of the film also includes Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram.
