In a statement, Fortis Hospital said, "He was in a critical condition on admission. He was under the care of the Neurosurgery team and managed on ventilator and cardio supportive drugs for 2 days. In spite of best clinical care and all resuscitative efforts, due to the severity of the illness, he passed away today (August 22) at 04:35 am."

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday met the family of actor Jaswinder Bhalla, who passed away earlier in the day, to offer his condolences.

The last rites of Jaswinder Bhalla are scheduled to take place on Saturday at Mohali's Balongi Cremation Ground in Mohali, where family, friends, and admirers would gather to pay tributes.

When I met him back in 2017 at PAU, Ludhiana, he was so genuine a beautiful soul in every sense. This feels personal."

Filmmaker Smeep Kang added that Bhalla’s iconic characters weren’t the result of last-minute preparation. "He didn’t wait to get on set to start working. He began shaping his character and improvising right after reading the script. He would often call at night with ideas of adding more layers and nuances to his characters. Sir (Bhalla) never followed the script; he followed his intuition and understanding of the audience. His goal was always to make people laugh,” said Hans, who saw Bhalla as a father figure and mentor," he added.

Filmmaker Smeep Kang collaborated with Bhalla on over a dozen films, including the popular Carry On Jatta series and described him as the 'soul' of the franchise. "Carry On Jatta became a cult classic largely because of him. No one could have played Advocate Dhillon the way he did. He was the heart and biggest contributor to the series,” shared Smeep Kang with ThePrint.

Close friend and filmmaker Smeep Kang shared with ThePrint that Jaswinder Bhalla had been unwell for over a year but had recently shown signs of recovery. He shared, "I visited him last month, and he was recovering well. We were discussing doing the fourth instalment of Carry On Jatta. I am shocked. Haven’t processed it yet."

He has done his last two films with us -- Carry on Jattiye which is yet to release; and Shinda Shinda No Papa. After that, he suffered an attack due to which he was in poor health. He was getting better now, improving every day. There was a time after his attack when he had stopped responding, but now he was responding to everything. Actor-singer Gippy Grewal expressed deep grief over the sudden demise of veteran Punjabi actor Jaswinder Bhalla. He told PTI, "It’s very shocking and upsetting news. He was very close to me, and it’s a huge loss for the Punjabi film industry. Everything happened so suddenly. I had worked with him a lot over the years. His health had started to decline after he suffered an attack, but he was gradually recovering."

Gippy Grewal shared with PTI, "This is an irredeemable loss for the Punjabi film industry. There was a lot of love with Bhalla's family, he loved my children and I was very fond of his son Pukhraj. It is very unexpected. We were all very happy; we were working on Carry on Jatta 4. I discussed the story with him just a few days ago. It is very sudden. Late at night, he felt dizzy and everything went bad after that."

Jaswinder Bhalla, a scholar by training, he earned his PhD in Extension Education, and served as a professor and head of the Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) before retiring in 2020. Gippy Grewal has reacted to Jaswinder Bhalla’s death. He took to his Instagram handle to share a series of pictures with Jaswinder Bhalla, remembering the Punjabi star. He wrote, "It’s very hard to believe. I’m in shock. He was like a father, mentor, and the talented actor to us in the whole industry, creating memories and enjoying moments like family. Our bond was very strong. This is the worst news. May he rest in peace. All my strength to the family. His legacy will live on through his work, and his impact on our lives will never be forgotten. I’ll cherish the memories we shared and the lessons he taught me. You will always be in my heart @jaswinderbhalla Bhaji."

Despite medical efforts, Jaswinder Bhalla reportedly breathed his last at 4:00 am on Friday. His death was later confirmed by his close friend and fellow Chhankata actor Balmukund Sharma.

According to BBC Punjabi, Jaswinder Bhalla suffered a brain stroke on Wednesday evening. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital, where doctors revealed that the actor had also lost a significant amount of blood.
