Celebrated Kannada writer-director SS David dies of heart attack

Known for helming the movies Jai Hind (1998) and Supari (2001), SS David breathed his last on Sunday evening at SS Hospital in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, after suffering a heart attack.

Renowned Kannada writer-director SS David has passed away. Known for helming the movies Jai Hind (1998) and Supari (2001), he breathed his last on Sunday evening at SS Hospital in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, after suffering a heart attack.

According to a report by One India, David was on his way to a pharmacy when he suddenly collapsed. Although he was rushed to the hospital, doctors were unable to save his life.

Besides directing Jai Hind and Supari, SS David also served as a screenwriter on many films. Some of his most notable works as a writer include Police Story (1996), Agni IPS (1997), Dhairya (1997), Simhada Mari (1997), Hai Bangalore (1997), Independence Day (2000), Mandya (2006), Thirupathi (2006), and Police Story 2 (2007).

Although a celebrated filmmaker, no one has come forward to claim SS David’s body. Reports indicate that his sister, who lives in Kapu, Udupi, has requested the police to conduct the final rites locally, as she is currently unable to travel. As a result, David’s body has been moved to Victoria Hospital in the city, where it will remain until authorities finalise the funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, the police have stated that they will not release the body until a family member arrives or provides further instructions regarding the final rites.

Known for his unique storytelling and directorial skills, SS David’s contributions left an indelible mark on Kannada cinema. After the news surfaced, several film lovers took to social media to mourn the demise of David.
