Taylor Swift just made her big return to Instagram and of course, it was to cheer on her bestie. After staying silent on the app for nearly 100 days, Taylor broke her hiatus to show love for Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco’s new joint album, I Said I Love You First. Selena’s new 14-track album is her first major release since Rare in 2020, and while some fans are side-eyeing a few of her old industry friends for staying quiet on her comeback, the “Cruel Summer” singer isn’t one of them.

“[Selena Gomez] & [Benny Blanco] I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD,” Taylor gushed on her Instagram Story Saturday. The “Fortnight” singer also dropped a link to the album and shared its cover art. Minutes later, Selena reciprocated the love. The Only Murders in the Building star reposted Taylor’s story with a sweet reply: “Love you, Tay.”

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez’s friendship goes all the way back to 2008, when Taylor was dating Joe Jonas and Selena was with Nick. More than a decade later, the two are still thick as thieves, always showing up for each other whenever it counts. Earlier, Benny Blanco revealed on Hot Ones that he’s become a “full-time Swiftie,” thanks to his fiancée, Selena.

The 14-time Grammy winner’s support came just as some of Selena’s fan pages were starting to get a little frustrated. Popular fan accounts for the “Love On” singer had been calling out a few big-name artistes for staying quiet about her comeback, especially the ones Selena has publicly supported in the past.

One fan page on X even wrote, “No celebrity supporting Selena Gomez’s new album except Becky G. Not even Taylor Swift.” That post has since disappeared, but Taylor’s shoutout pretty much silenced all the chatter. Some even slammed Selena’s label Interscope Records for not promoting the album properly.

As for the album itself, fans were quick to point out some of the lyrics that seemed aimed at Selena Gomez’s ex, Justin Bieber. In her song “How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten”, she sings, “You’re so embarrassing / Go cry when no one’s watching… How does it feel to be forgotten?” Fans think she is throwing some shade at Justin, especially since he’s been pretty emotional online lately. She also sings about someone walking in “talkin’ like we’re friends,” which sounds a lot like her past with the “Baby” crooner. In another song, “Young and Hotter Than Me”, she talks about a cheating ex she wishes she “never loved.”

However, in a recent Spotify interview, Selena tried to silence all the chatter. She made it clear: “Most of this album has nothing to do with what everyone may think it does.” Instead, a lot of the songs are about her relationship with Benny Blanco, like “Sunset Blvd”, where she throws in some fun, flirty lyrics about him.
