Sachin-Jigar’s Sachin Sanghvi arrested for sexual assault, lawyer calls accusations ‘absolutely baseless, unsubstantiated’

Composer and singer Sachin Sanghvi, of the musical duo Sachin-Jigar, was arrested in Mumbai amid accusations of sexual assault by a 29-year-old female aspiring singer. Sanghvi was later released on bail. The woman claimed that Sanghvi promised to marry her, and also give her a break in a music album. She also claimed that he forced her to undergo abortion in 2024. Sachin’s lawyer, however, has claimed that allegations against his client are “absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated.” Sachin is married and has a daughter.

Sachin’s lawyer, Aditya Mithe, spoke to PTI and called the accusation levelled against his client completely false. He argued that the way his client was detained by the authorities was also illegal. “The allegations in the FIR against my client are absolutely baseless and unsubstantiated. There is absolutely no merit to the case. My client’s detention by the police was illegal, and that is the reason why he was released on bail immediately. We intend to defend all allegations fully and unequivocally,” said Mithe

The composer has been booked under sections 69 and 74 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). Sachin’s personal Instagram account remains deactivated at this point, and the composer has not personally addressed any of the accusations until Saturday morning.

As per a report by The Indian Express, the woman claimed that she met Sachin in February 2024 via social media. Later, they met on several occasions to discuss work. She claimed that he promised her a chance to sing in an album, and also made promises to marry in exchange for sex. She also said that she got pregnant in 2024 and he forced her to get an abortion.

Sachin-Jigar have composed music for films like Stree 2, Param Sundari, Thamma, Badlapur, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, Munjya and more. Sachin is married to Sheetal Sanghvi, and the two of them share a daughter, Tanishkaa Sanghvi, who is also a singer and has worked with her father in the past.
