Composer Purbayan Chatterjee weds Malayalam singer Gayatri Asokan in Thrissur, see pics
Noted sitar player and musician Purbayan Chatterjee chose a Kerala temple wedding with renowned Malayalam classical singer Gayatri Asokan.

It was the perfect amalgamation of music. Malayalam singer Gayatri Asokan married noted sitar player and composer Purbayan Chatterjee at a traditional wedding. The ceremonies took place at Thrissur’s Paramekkavu temple. Purbayan Chatterjee, despite being a Bengali, chose a Kerala wedding, as Gayatri Asokan belongs to that region. It was surely one beautiful marriage.
Chatterjee hails from Kolkata and is known for fusing Indian classical music with contemporary world music genres. Gayatri Asokan is a trained Carnatic singer who has lent her voice to several jingles and has produced albums, too. Gayatri has even won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer in 2003. The 37-year-old is a disciple of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and is an active participant at Art of Living programmes across the world. Her famous songs include “Enthe Nee Kanna” for Sasneham Sumitra, “Chanjadi Adi” in Makalkku, “Thumbikkinnaram” from Naran and “Pularumo” from Ritu.
Chatterjee, on the other hand, is a recipient of the President of India Award, which he received at the age of 15. From Queen Elizabeth Hall in London to Sydney’s Opera House, Adelaide Festival Centre and Salle Gaveau in Paris, the 40-year-old has performed at several global venues. Singer Shankar Mahadevan has also collaborated with Chatterjee apart from tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain.
