Hip Hop star Travis Scott’s debut India performance: Second show sold out
Rapper-songwriter Travis Scott is best-known for his famed third studio album ‘Astroworld', which was a critique of consumerism.

Riding on the current booming Indian live music scene and “astronomical demand”, American rapper, songwriter and record producer Travis Scott, known for concerts that are full-blown sensory experiences with pyrotechnics and roller coaster-inspired set designs, announced his second concert on April 6. The show, which is part of his ‘Circus Maximus World Tour’, like the first one, was sold out within three hours amid very high demand.
The two concerts, which are to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on October 18 and 19, come post the massive success of concerts by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, famed alt-rockers Coldplay and global popstar Diljeet Dosanjh, and at a time when the Indian live music industry is projected to reach Rs 143 billion in 2026.
According to a statement released by BookMyShow, “This phenomenal demand is a nod to the passionate Travis Scott fanbase, as it marks a defining moment in India’s hip-hop journey, reaffirming the nation’s growing presence on the global touring map. For India and its live entertainment industry, this moment represents more than just scale — it’s a clear reflection of the country’s readiness to host the world’s biggest artists and an indicator of the growing appetite for diverse, global music experiences. It underscores the immense potential of the Indian market as a cultural force, powered by an ever-evolving, passionate and genre-fluid fanbase.”
Born Jacques Bermon Webster II in Houston, Travis Scott came under the spotlight after he caught the attention of rappers Kanye West and TI while trying to get his music out. He has earned attention in the last decade for an experimental approach to hip hop and wild performances that are an amalgamation of rap and hip hop and include distinct trap beats.
Known for his songs such as Sicko mode and Goosebumps, Scott is most-known for his famed third studio album ‘Astroworld’, named after the now-defunct amusement park, which was a critique of consumerism. In 2021, a show for the psychedelic rap album in Houston had ended in a tragedy when 10 people died during a fatal crowd crush at his concert at NRG Park. The crowd surged forward towards the stage, killing many and injuring more. The concert, however, had continued during the chaos, highlighting issues in planning and security as well as criticism for Scott. The rapper had later claimed that he was unaware of the severity of the situation. He also set up Project HEAL sometime later to address event safety and its challenges.
As Indian organisers call for the ‘mosh pit’ at the upcoming concerts, the security and safety protocols, past chaos and sub-standard organisation of concerts in India, as highlighted during Bryan Adams and Diljeet Dosanjh concerts, is likely to be a concern.
