Diljit Dosanjh has been constantly making headlines for his successful concerts across the world. He is currently performing across various venues in India. After the Telangana government ordered the singer to refrain singing songs promoting drugs and alcohol during his Hyderabad concert, Diljit responded on stage in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. While he tweaked the lyrics of all his songs, he insisted that banning songs won’t help anyone and challenged the government to ban alcohol instead. The topic was widely discussed on news channels and during Diljit’s latest concert in Lucknow, the singer addressed that as well.

On Friday, Dijit picked on a particular news anchor who challenged if singers could have a hit song that does not promote substance abuse. In his reply, Diljit spoke during his concert and said, “Media has been running several reports about me. I want to tell them, there is nothing versus Diljit. I love everyone. I have had amazing experiences performing at several Indian cities.”

He added, “There is an anchor on one of the news channels, who was challenging me to make a hit song without referencing alcohol and drugs. I want to tell him, ‘For your kind information sir, my songs Born To Shine, GOAT, Lover, Kinni Kinni, and Naina and a lot of my other songs are streamed more on Spotify as compared to Patiala Peg. So your challenge goes waste, because I already proved you wrong’.”

He added that he wasn’t defending his music but requested that if songs were going to censored in this way, then the same censorship should be applied to movies as well. “I just request you that if you are so eager to add censorship to our songs, can you please do that to Indian films as well? Today, a star is defined by the length of his weapon in the movie. The bigger the gun, the greater the star. Also, please remind me which actor today hasn’t done a scene with alcohol or cigarette. I can’t remember any such name. I will stop singing all my songs with alcohol references the day you ban it from movies too.”

Diljit said that “you trouble artistes and singers because they come as soft targets to you.” He added, “Let me remind you, the films I have done has also received National Film Awards. My work is not cheap. So if you have spread this fake news about me, you should be correcting it. Your fake news has not angered me, but it is your responsibility to report the right news. I challenge you to report the right news.”

Previously, replying to the Telangana government, Diljit had said, “The artists who come from other countries are allowed to sing whatever they want and do whatever they want, but when an artist from your own country sings, you have a problem, you create trouble. But I’ll tell you something, God is with me, I won’t let this go.” Dilijit will next perform in Pune as part of his Dil-Luminati India tour.
