BTS member Suga’s license cancelled after drunk driving incident, singer apologises: ‘Entirely my responsibility without any excuse’

BTS member Suga was recently booked for drunk driving in Seoul’s Yongsan district. The singer was riding an electric scooter while he was under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, Suga issued an apology, and Big Hit Music, BTS’s management agency, also issued a statement on the matter.

According to a report by Soompi, Suga fell while riding an electric scooter alone in an intoxicated on Tuesday. The Seoul Yongsan Police Station revealed that they booked Suga on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and are currently investigating the matter. The police officers who helped Suga after he fell smelled alcohol on him and took him to the police station.

Following the incident, Suga issued an apology, acknowledging that he was intoxicated while driving. His statement read, “Hello, this is Suga. I am very heavy-hearted and apologetic to bring you disappointing news. After drinking at a dinner yesterday night, I rode an electric scooter home. I violated the Road Traffic Act due to my complacent thinking that it was a short distance and my failure to recognise that using an electric scooter while intoxicated was prohibited.”

The singer also revealed that following the incident, his license has been canceled, and a fine was imposed on him. The statement further read, “I fell while parking the scooter in front of my house, and the nearby police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, resulting in the cancellation of my license and a fine. Although there were no victims or damaged facilities in this process, it is entirely my responsibility without any excuse, and I sincerely apologise to everyone. I apologise to everyone hurt by my careless and wrong actions, and I will be more careful in my actions in the future to prevent such incidents from occurring again.”

Big Hit Music also issued an apology for the incident. A part of their statement read, “We apologise for the disappointment caused by our artist’s inappropriate behavior. As a public service worker, he will receive appropriate disciplinary action from his workplace for causing public disturbance. We will take greater care to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Thank you.”

Suga is currently finishing his mandatory military service. He is expected to get discharged in 2025.
