BLACKPINK’s Jennie says she doesn’t ‘do well in heels’, crying before Coachella: ‘I was under so much pressure’
Jennie Kim admitted feeling immense pressure before Coachella and said it was her 'first time crying'.

Jennie Kim, a member of the popular girl group Blackpink, recently had a candid conversation with Dua Lipa on her BBC Sounds podcast ‘Dua Lipa: At Your Service.’ During the interview, Jennie discussed her acting debut and the challenges and pressures she faces as a K-pop star. She also opened up about feeling like she has let down her fans on certain occasions.
On the podcast, Jennie said, “I would constantly hurt myself during performances and lives compared to other girls. It was a just a stressful thing in my life. I’m like ‘there we go, I fell again. I tripped over again. I feel like I’ve disappointed my fans at some point in my life where it seems like I wasn’t giving my best. But I haven’t had the moment to say this, but I did not know how to control my body and use my body the way I should. Something like I just don’t do well in heels.”
Jennie said she’s still learning about herself and wants to be the one to share her story with her fans from now on. She added, “If anything, let me be the person to share me like, from now on.”
The rapper said that starting her career in Korea as a pop artist has restricted a lot of sides of her. She added that over time she was able to express herself and added that “people would see it as breaking the boundaries rather than ‘she’s doing something that she’s not allowed to do’.”
BLACKPINK made history as they became the first K-pop group to perform on the main stage at Coachella. Talking about Coachella and how she cried, Jennie said, “I was under so much pressure, I think it was my first time crying. Just as soon as I was off stage, I just burst into tears. It was so emotional. I was so proud. And the hard work that we put on and just the overwhelming feeling that we got from the crowd. It was just a lot.”
