AP Dhillon urges people to ‘spread love not hate’ after Punjabi singer Shubh’s India tour gets cancelled: ‘It has become impossible to…’
Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh's India tour was cancelled in the wake of a controversial social media post. AP Dhillon has now commented on the state of artistes in divided times.

(Photo: ap.dhillon/Instagram) Indo-Canadian singer, rapper and producer AP Dhillon penned a note on social media on Thursday, after the Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh’s India tour was cancelled in the wake of a controversial social media post. Dhillon wrote that it has become “difficult” for artists to focus on their craft at a time when people take offence at the drop of a hat.
He wrote, “I try to stay out of all the social mania as it is clear to me that regardless of what I say or do, it is a lost cause… someone, somewhere, is going to spin the narrative to their liking and create more division. As an artist, it has become almost impossible to stay focused on your craft and do what you love.”
The singer, popular for his songs “Brown Munde”, “Summer High”, and “Excuses”, among others, added that despite being careful about not hurting anyone’s sentiments through his actions, he sometimes ‘triple-guesses’ himself out of caution. Dhillon added, “I try to be mindful of everyone’s sentiments but it’s gotten to a point where we have to second and triple guess our every move due to the fear of unintentionally fueling even more division.”
Dhillon continued, “Special interest and political groups constantly use our public image as a chess piece to further their agenda while we are just trying to make art that helps people on an individual level, regardless of their color, race, religion, nationality, gender, etc.” He concluded by requesting people to not let anyone ‘influence’ their beliefs and to stay united.
“Spread love not hate. Let’s start thinking for ourselves and not let hateful influences program our beliefs. We are ALL one. Let’s not let man-made social constructs divide us. Division has gotten us to this point but unity is the key to the future,” wrote Dhillon.

Clarifying his stance on what happened and expressing ‘sorrow’ over his cancelled shows, Shubh wrote on Instagram that he had been practising for his performance in India for the last two months. He wrote, “My intention in resharing that post on my story was only to Pray For Punjab as there were reports of electricity and internet shutdowns throughout the state. There was no other thought behind it.”
Latest post on Sidhu Moosewala’s Instagram page
Late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s Instagram account also came out in support of Shubh. A post on the account read, “Sidhu consistently advocated for his people, only to be unjustly labelled a terrorist without an substantiated evidence. Regrettably, a similar fate has befallen Shubh. A single Instagram Story, posted with benevolent intentions, has unexpectedly ignited a torrent of national animosity. It raises the question of why artists hailing for minority communities seem to consistently face such adversity, either through persecution or silencing. Music transcends caste and religion. We lost Sidhu due to this prevailing hatred. When will this end?”
The ticket aggregator BookMyShow announced that it would issue refunds for Shubh’s cancelled concert. It shared a statement on X: “Singer Shubhneet Singh’s Still Rollin Tour for India stands cancelled. To that end, BookMyShow has initiated a complete refund of the ticket amount for all consumers who had purchased tickets for the show. The refund will be reflected within 7-10 working days in the customer’s source account of the original transaction.”
