Amaal Mallik on cutting ties with his parents, claims the decision brought them closer: ‘Parents wanted me to be like brother Armaan Mallik, had to express myself’

Amaal mentioned how he has always felt that his family was like one unit, but he still felt that his family weren’t able to understand a lot of what he was going through and admitted that even he might have been a little aloof to their needs. He revealed how many of his fans wondered why he wasn’t making more music or stepping away from his family. According to Amaal, his parents were also taken aback by the decision, but in hindsight, it turned out to be good for them, and brought them closer to each other. The singer also talked about people’s tendency of keeping their parents on a pedestal, and said that one should realise that they are just humans and are as likely as anyone to make mistakes.

Amaal posted this announcement back in March, and in the post, the singer called out his parent for certain actions which drove a wedge between him and his brother Armaan. He said, “The journey has been terrific for the both of us, but the actions of my parents have been the reason we as brothers have gone too far from one another, and all of this has made me step in for myself, as it has left a very deep scar across my heart.”

Just days after his estrangement from the family, Amaal was spotted in a picture posted by his brother of his registered marriage, where he could be seen posing alongside Armaan and his wife, Aashna Shroff.
