A R Rahman enthrals audience at Vadodara fest

Noted musician A R Rahman enthralled the audience with his music and popular songs at the closing of the four-day Vadodara International Art and Culture Festival ‘Vadfest’ here.

Rahman sang a couple of his own numbers like ‘Dil Se’ and concluded the three-and-half hour musical show last night with the rendition of his ‘Vande Mataram’ composition.

Over 30,000 people enjoyed the musical night at Navlakhi compound of the 125-year-old Lakshmi Vilas Palace in the city.

On the occasion, Rahman said, “My wife is from Gujarat and I love singing here and composed a Gujarati song for the Vadfest.”

State finance and industries minister Saurabh Patel presented a memento to the ‘Mozart of Madras’ and said, “Rahman has shown his willingness to perform in Gujarat whenever needed.”

Other artists, including renowned playback singer Udit Narayan, also sang their hit songs, mesmerising the crowd.

Well-known percussionist Sivamani also gave a solo performance on his drums.

With 50 events, across 15 venues over a period of four days, VadFest 2015 is one of India’s biggest multi-arts, multi-venue culture festivals, Patel said.

Noted artists from across India and around the world, including world famous Greek music composer and instrumentalist Yanni, graced the cityscape for the four-day celebration of art, music, dance, drama, culture, food and a special kids’ theatre fest that began on January 23.
