Mohanlal recalls his prediction about Fahadh Faasil after his debut movie fiasco: ‘It came true’

Mohanlal recently took a trip down memory lane and shared how he believed in the talent of Fahadh Faasil even when the whole world didn’t.

While there are many similarities between Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil, the most significant is that both acting legends were introduced to the world of cinema by the same person: Fazil, who is also Fahadh’s father. However, even as Fazil made a significant impact by introducing Mohanlal in his debut movie Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980), with both receiving widespread acclaim for their works, he couldn’t emulate the same success while introducing Fahadh in Kaiyethum Doorath (2002), as his performance faced heavy criticism. Fahadh immediately withdrew from cinema and took a long hiatus before making a successful return later in the decade, delivering a string of impressive performances and solidifying his place in the industry.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal recently took a trip down memory lane and shared how he believed in the talent of the Aavesham star even when the whole world didn’t. The Malayalam superstar recalled that even before Fahadh’s return from his break, he was confident the young actor would achieve great success in his life. “His father (Fazil) was my first director… Later, I had the opportunity to act with him (in director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Lucifer). Last month, we worked together on Empuraan (Lucifer’s sequel). My family has known Fazil’s family for a long time. I have known Fahadh since his school days,” Mohanlal told Sun Music.

“Once, Fazil Sir asked me, ‘How would you rate Fahadh as an actor?’ This was when he was studying in the US. I told him, ‘Let Fahadh return and act in films.’ When he did return, my prediction came true. He is a great actor and is doing very well,” the Malayalam legend added.

Though they didn’t share scenes, Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil collaborated in director Salam Bappu’s Red Wine (2013). They are now working together in Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming multi-starrer film, tentatively titled MMMN. The movie also stars Mammootty, Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara in key roles.
