Mammootty to take on negative role in Bhoothakaalam director’s next; Arjun Ashokan to play lead role
The shooting for the untitled project is scheduled to commence on August 15. While Mammootty has set aside 30 days for filming, Arjun Ashokan will dedicate 60 days to the Rahul Sadasivan project.

Following his chilling performance as a casteist antagonist in Ratheena’s Puzhu (2021), Mammootty is gearing up to once again take on a negative role, but this time in a horror movie. The upcoming film, written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who gained recognition for the critically acclaimed Bhoothakaalam, will star Arjun Ashokan in the lead role.
According to a report by Kerala Kaumudi, the shooting for this unnamed project is scheduled to commence on August 15. While Mammootty has set aside 30 days for filming, Arjun will dedicate 60 days to the project. YNOT Studios, a well-known film production company that backed films like Irudhi Suttru (in both Tamil and Hindi), Vikram Vedha (in both Tamil and Hindi), and Jagame Thandhiram, will bankroll the movie, marking their debut in the Malayalam film industry. The specifics regarding the remaining cast and crew members have not yet been disclosed. Mammootty and Arjun Ashokan shared the screen earlier in Khalid Rahman’s movie Unda.
Having numerous projects lined up, Mammootty, who recently clinched his 8th Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor, is preparing for an uninterrupted display of his acting prowess.
While his Kaathal – The Core (Dir. Jeo Baby) and Kannur Squad (Dir. Roby Varghese Raj) are already in their post-production stage, the shooting for the stylish thriller Bazooka, directed by Deeno Dennis, is currently underway.
Bhoothakalam, one of the finest horror films to have ever emerged from Malayalam cinema, featured Shane Nigam and Revathi in the lead roles. This movie also marked a significant achievement for Revathi, as it earned her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress, a recognition she received after a career spanning 39 years.
In addition to Bhoothakalam, Rahul was also at the helm of the 2016 movie Red Rain.
