Malayalam actor Meghanathan passes away at 60 due to respiratory illness

Meghanathan was the third child of actor Balan K Nair. The actor was undergoing treatment for a lung-related illness. He passed away on Thursday.

Popular Malayalam actor Meghanathan has passed away due to complications from a lung-related illness. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he breathed his last. He was 60. According to Manorama, the actor’s funeral will be held at his residence in Shoranur on Thursday. He is survived by his wife, Susmitha, and daughter, Parvathi.

Meghanathan was the third son of veteran actor Balan K Nair. Meghanathan’s father had won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1981, for his performance as Govindan in the film Oppol. He was famous for his villainous roles.

Meghanathan made his debut with the 1983 film Asthram. In a career spanning three decades, the actor appeared in over 50 films. Panchagni, Chamayam, Rajadhani, Bhoomigeetham, Chenkol, Malappuram, Haji Mahanaya Joji, Prayikkara Pappan, Udyanapaalakam, Ee Puzhayum, Kadannu, and Vaasthavam are some of his best-known works. Like his father, he mostly played antagonist roles.

He was also part of several television serials such as Sthreetvam, Meghasandesham, Kathayariyathe, Snehanjali, and Chitta, among others. The actor last appeared in the film Samadhana Pusthakam, which was released earlier this year.
