Pakistani actor Mahira Khan, who rose to fame in India after playing the female lead in Shah Rukh Khan’s 2017 film Raees, has heaped praise on Malayalam cinema in a roundtable discussion. A clip of Mahira talking about the industry in high regard has gone viral among fans down South.

In the video, Mahira can be telling her friends that they ‘must watch Malayalam cinema’. When someone wonders if KGF is a Malayalam film, Mahira says, “No. I am not talking about Tamil and Telugu cinema. I am talking about Malayalam. You must (watch Malayalam cinema).”

Suddenly, names of Malayalam stars like Mohanlal and Prithviraj crop up in the conversation. “They make more money by selling their films to Bollywood. This is what I have understood. I don’t know. I might be wrong. But their films… the kind of ideas! their direction! their lighting! You will be surprised.”

Mahira also said that she had met Prithviraj once. The clip has become a hit among Prithviraj and Mohanlal fans.

Mahira Khan, who made her acting debut in 2011 with Bol, is currently one of the leading stars in Pakistan. She is best known for playing Khirad Hussain in the television serial Humsafar (2011).
