Kalyani Priyadarshan on Lokah’s blockbuster success: ‘Dulquer Salmaan assured me before the release that our film would find its audience”
Actor Kalyani Priyadarshan talks about her experience working with Dulquer Salman, who bankrolled her latest film Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra.

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s film Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra is creating ripples at the global box office, raking in over Rs 100 crore in just one week. The movie, a modern-day retelling of the “Kalliyankattu Neeli” myth from Kerala’s rich folklore, follows a ‘yakshi’ who faces off against a misogynistic cop. Kalyani recently spoke about her experience working with Dulquer Salmaan, her first-ever onscreen co-star in Varane Avashyamund, who also coincidentally serves as the producer of Lokah.
In a conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan, Kalyani revealed what Dulquer told her during a call just a day before Lokah’s release. “He said, ‘I don’t care if we lose money on this film. I’m just glad that we made a good film.’” The actor shared that they were confident about having made a good movie, regardless of how the audience would react. “Dulquer told me not to look at the numbers. He said, ‘I am really happy with the film as a producer. This is what we got into films for in the first place,’” she added.
Kalyani Priyadarshan also shared how the scope of the film got bigger after Dulquer Salmaan got attached to Lokah as a producer. “Dulquer told me that he believed that our film would find its right audience, no matter how small or big. He was the one who came into this independent production and encouraged us all to dream big and go beyond the small beginning we had in mind as the story of Chandra alone.”
Written and directed by Dominic Arun, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra kick-starts the franchise, with a Tovino Thomas-led film expected to be the next chapter.
