Empuraan box office collection day 9: Mohanlal’s blockbuster just Rs 4 cr shy of taking over Manjummel Boys, inches towards Rs 300 cr
Empuraan box office collection day 9: Prithviraj and Mohanlal-starrer is surrounded in controversy but that isn't affecting its box office collections.

Empuraan box office collection day 9: Who would have thought that the biggest Malayalam superstar’s biggest-ever film, directed by one of the most prolific actor-filmmakers in India, would be known more for its controversies than the film? Even though the conversations surrounding Empuraan continue, the film is marching ahead at the box office. On Day 9, the film made Rs 3 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk, taking the domestic nett collections to Rs 91.2 crore.
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Mohanlal-starrer is the biggest success in both their careers, and has broken multiple records in its 9-day run. Even though Prithviraj and Mohanlal went on an extensive promotional campaign across the metro cities in India, it is the Malayalam version of Empuraan that has done the bulk of the heavy lifting. Out of the Rs 91.2 crore made so far, Rs 83.3 crore has come from its Malayalam version, with Tamil and Telugu versions contributing to Rs 3.13 crore and Rs 2.42 crore, respectively. The Hindi version of the film has made Rs 2.06 crore so far.
On Friday, the makers claimed that the film has made over Rs 100 crore worldwide. They also shared that the film made Rs 30 crore gross in India outside of Kerala. According to Sacnilk, the worldwide collections of Empuraan currently stand at Rs 236.25 crore, which is second only to Rs 240.5 crore made by Manjummel Boys. Although, the film is already the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year, it will be interesting to see if the film has legs to beat the domestic collection of Manjummel Boys, which garnered Rs 141.61 crores nett in its stellar and unprecedented run.

With heavy competition coming from films like Bazooka, Alappuzha Gymkhana and Maranamass in Malayalam, Jaat in Hindi, and Good Bad Ugly in Tamil, it will be interesting to see if Empuraan fights through these onslaught of releases to rake in more money, and improve its collections. Nevertheless, the film has managed to brave all the controversies hitting it from left, right, and centre, and hopefully, the makers loop in together to deliver the third and final part of the franchise, which began with Lucifer in 2019.
