Dominic and the Ladies Purse teaser: Despite being a Malayali at birth, it has taken almost 23 years for director Gautham Vasudev Menon to make a direct Malayalam film. The ace filmmaker, known for making riveting cop dramas like Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, has showcased his penchant for making investigative thrillers. Interestingly, he has often expressed his interest in making a film about a detective, and almost realised his dream with Thuppariyum Anand, which was supposed to be headlined by Suriya. Even though that project never took off, Gautham has finally made a detective story, and it will mark his directorial debut in Malayalam cinema. Titled Dominic and the Ladies Purse, the film is headlined by Mammootty, who is also backing the film under the Mammootty Kampany banner.

After releasing a rather intriguing first look poster featuring the legendary actor, the makers released the teaser of the Dominic and the Ladies Purse. Written by Gautham, Dr Neeraj Rajan, and Dr Suresh Rajan, the film also features Gokul Suresh in a pivotal role. The teaser begins with Gokul walking down to a parking lot and discussing with his senior/mentor about the probability of their endeavour turning violent. In a rather funny exchange, we see Mammootty’s titular character explaining in detail about how to escape from a tight hand-to-hand combat.

Here’s the teaser:

It is almost a pragmatic version of Robert Downey Jr’s stunt sequence in Sherlock Holmes where he anticipates every move of his opponent inside a boxing ring. This almost trance-like explanation of the combat is brought to reality by Gokul’s question about a similar attack in Mammootty’s house a bit earlier. This leads to a rather interesting exchange about surprise attacks, and it is a reflection of Gautham’s directorial skills that we are intrigued by a simple scene that essentially tells us nothing, but leaves us with enough.
