Basil ‘Sigma Male’ Joseph casually burns things down in new glimpse of Maranamass

The makers had earlier teased the idea of Basil Joseph's Maranamass being a rather fun exploration of the idea of masculinity, of course, the toxic kind.

When the first look poster of Basil Joseph as the ‘Sigma Male’ in director Sivaprasad’s upcoming film, Maranamass, was released online, it created quite the flutter thanks to the no-holds barred look of the actor-filmmaker. With coloured hair, and an overall different vibe, the makers teased the idea of Maranamass being a rather fun exploration of the idea of masculinity, of course, the toxic kind.

The makers have now released an interesting video that starts off with a TV news channel setup where the anchor talks about violence and murders on the rise. There is also a representation of the true-crime news shows on regional channels where everything is over-dramatised and exaggerated. The accurate showcase of such shows ends up with an interview of Basil in the character of the ‘sigma male’ explaining how he does things for the betterment of people asking him for help, even if it involves the burning down of a staff room.

The rather fun take on the ‘sigma male’ concept might seem like a sure-shot way to simply capitalize on the trend while it lasts. However, considering the names involved in the film, it is okay to feel assured that there is much more than what meets the eye in the first look poster and the recent glimpse into the world of Maranamass.

Here’s the video:

Backed by Tovino Thomas, Maranamass also stars Rajesh Madhavan, Siju Sunny, Puliyanam Poulose, Suresh Krishna, Babu Antony, and Anishma Anikumar. Co-produced by Rapheal Pazholiparambil, Tingston Thomas and Thanzeer Salam. the movie will have music by JK and cinematography by Neeraj Revi.

It was recently announced that Maranamass will release alongside biggies like Mammootty’s Bazooka, Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, and Dhanush’s Idli Kadai on the festive occasion of Vishu. Although it might seem like a crowded time at the theatres with the other films hitting the screens on April 10, the makers of Maranamass haven’t yet zeroed in on the date. It is not known if the movie would be released on April 10, or on another date.

Nevertheless, the festive occasion is packed with releases, offering something for everyone, considering the diverse genres these films explore.

Basil Joseph, who hasn’t directed a film since Minnal Murali, and has since become a full-fledged actor with films hitting the screens at regular intervals, has revealed that the acting career will be put on the backburner after his current projects. With sights set back on the director’s chair, Basil, who was rumoured to be working on a Hindi film with Ranveer Singh in the lead, hasn’t yet confirmed his next directorial. However, he has been consistently expressing his opinions that the director in him is raring to come out, and he will be spending the next couple of years working on his own directorial venture.
