Arjun Ashokan can be seen delivering his lines to his co-actor Sarath Saba. However, after the dialogue exchange, as Arjun begins to walk to exit the scene, Sarath can be seen struggling to maintain his balance on the scooter, and crashes into Arjun, knocking him down. The BTS video was recently shared by the director Akhil Anilkumar in a humorous vein with the caption, ”Where is the brake in this thing? Where is it?” which is a direct callback to a popular comedy scene featuring actor Sreenivasan from the vintage comedy, Thalayanamanthram. The scene where the actor loses control of the car while driving, the character famously blurts out similar lines, which have now made into everyday usage in Kerala. Thalavara opened to good reviews from critics and has been holding its own in the theatres despite the Onam biggies taking up the majority of the screens.

Thalavara is a coming-of-age story of a young man who has vitiligo. The film uses the tropes of a romantic comedy to eschew the taboo and notions of discrimination often directed at people suffering from this medical condition. Thalavara has been lauded for its restraint and subtle representation of sensitive themes. The film also features Jyoti, Devadarshini Sukumaran and Prashant Murali among others. Thalavara has cinematography by Anurudh Aneesh, while the musical score is by Electronic Kili and Vijay Anand.
