Days after radio jockey and playback singer Suchitra stirred controversy by making serious allegations against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Malayalam film heavyweights Mohanlal and Mammootty, as well as celebrity couple Rima Kallingal and Aashiq Abu, the filmmaker has come forward, claiming these narratives are part of a right wing plot to tarnish their reputation.

Recently, Suchitra, in an interview with a Tamil YouTube channel, alleged that the release of the Justice Hema Committee Report was a scheme orchestrated by the Kerala CM, Mohanlal and Mammootty to sabotage the careers of young actors like Fahadh Faasil. She also claimed that raids were conducted at the home of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) founding member Rima Kallingal and her husband Aashiq Abu, accusing them of hosting rave parties where drug use was rampant.

Aashiq Abu, in response, denied these claims, stating that he has never promoted substance use on his film sets. In an interview with Manorama News, he shared that he has been a victim of those involved in drug use within the film industry. Abu also suggested that he has been targeted ever since voicing his opposition to the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) of 2019. “Ever since then, the Sangh Parivar has accused me of running the Mattancherry mafia. Both Rima and I have been facing such accusations since then,” he said.

“If we have reached somewhere in our career, it’s because we maintain a discipline. From my very first film, we have maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward substance use on set or during any film-related activities,” Aashiq asserted, adding that they will fight the accuser legally.

In a strongly worded statement, Rima Kallingal also condemned Suchitra’s allegations. “Although these wild theories did not make it into the mainstream news, her baseless statement about me – based on a news article she read about my so-called “arrest” – gained traction. Let me make it clear that such an event never occurred. I have decided to take action. I have filed a complaint with the SIT and sent a defamation notice,” she noted in the statement shared on social media.
