According to industry expert AB George, 2018 also had a record weekend in the Telugu states. The film’s Hindi, Telugu and Tamil versions hit theatres on May 26. The movie’s Telugu version earned approximately Rs 1.41 crore on Sunday, while the figures for its Tamil and Hindi editions are not available yet.
Following the release of the film in Telugu, a few Telugu celebrities, who attended a special screening of the film, had come forward heaping praise on the film. While Naga Chaitanya, who was last seen in Venkat Prabhu’s Custody, called 2018 a “hard-hitting and emotional” film, actor Anand Deverakonda, brother of Vijay Deverakonda, said that he was astounded by the technical brilliance of the film.
The survival thriller had recently breached the long-standing record of Vysakh’s Pulimurugan (2016), starring Mohanlal, thus becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time and simultaneously, the biggest grosser in Kerala.
In its review of the film, The Indian Express had mentioned that 2018 – Everyone Is A Hero, instead of following a straightforward plot with ups and downs, is like a beautifully crafted necklace, with each incident and occurrence adding to its charm. “2018 presents a heartwarming tale of unity and resilience that give goosebumps at every juncture,” it added.
