The Perfect Couple
Netflix

Based on the book by Elin Hilderbrand, the six-part series traces the story of Amelia Sacks, who is about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. Her disapproving future mother-in-law, famous novelist Greer Garrison Winbury, has spared no expense in planning what promises to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turns up on the beach. As secrets come to light, the stage is set for a real-life investigation that feels plucked from the pages of one of Greer’s novels. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect. Directed by Susanne Bier, the series marks Ishaan Khatter’s Hollywood debut. The cast features Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, Liev Schreiber and Isabelle Adjani, among others.

Kinds of Kindness
Disney+Hotstar
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable and it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. This features a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader. The screenplay is written by Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou. The cast features Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau and others. For his performance, Plemons won the Best Actor award at the Cannes festival.

My First Film
MUBI
Directed by American filmmaker Zia Anger, this semi-autobiographical debut feature is raw and inspiring meta exploration of her own artistic and personal experiences. The film, featuring Odessa Young (Shirley, Assassination Nation) as the director’s stand-in, premiered at the CPH:DOX Film Festival earlier this year. Anger blends both documentary and feature film-making into a story about the transformative power of artistic self-reflection. It follows a young filmmaker, Vita, who revisits her first chaotic attempt at filmmaking 15 years prior. Shooting a semi-autobiographical film starring her friend Dina, Vita’s eager but inexperienced approach causes the production to spiral into chaos, leading to significant disruptions and a near-fatal accident.
