Spider-Man star Tom Holland is set to take to take his career to the next level, as reports emerge that he has been chosen to headline filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s untitled next film. Also starring Matt Damon, who featured in the filmmaker’s Oppenheimer and Interstellar, the film is also written by Nolan, and will be released in July 2026. As per usual for Nolan’s films, plot details are being kept secret, although reports suggest that the film isn’t going to be set in contemporary times.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Universal Pictures will distribute the “top secret” venture, with the studio already locking July 17, 2026 as the release date. The film will be produced by Nolan and his actor wife Emma Thomas. There have been speculations about Nolan’s next, especially in the last few weeks, with many wondering what genre the filmmaker will tackle next. Nolan has helmed films like The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, Inception, The Prestige, Dunkirk, Memento and Tenet.

According to Gizmodo, Nolan’s next film will be a vampire movie set in the 1920s– making it the first time the filmmaker will be dabbling in the genre. It isn’t yet clear if this would be a “horror” film. Earlier this year, Nolan had mentioned at BFI that if an “exceptional idea” for a horror film came to him, he would definitely be interested. He described horror as a “visceral” genre that offers a lot of “bleakness and abstraction”.

Christopher Nolan’s last venture, the global blockbuster Oppenheimer, headlined by Cillian Murphy, was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning seven in prominent categories, including Best Director– the first ever for the filmmaker. Meanwhile, Holland is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year, with Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Doomsday entering production. He will balance his time on those two films with Nolan’s movie.
