The Apprentice trailer: With the United States presidential election right around the corner, both the Democratic and Republican parties have intensified their campaigns for nominees Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, respectively. Less than a month before the polls, the much-anticipated biographical historical drama The Apprentice, revolving around Trump’s early business career, is set to hit the screens and the film is expected to become a major talking point in the weeks leading up to the election.
On Tuesday, the film’s makers released its official trailer, offering a glimpse into The Apprentice and its depiction of the “three rules” for success. The 88-second trailer starts with Trump (Sebastian Stan) going to meet lawyer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), who gained recognition for his role as Senator Joseph McCarthy’s chief counsel during the Army-McCarthy hearings. As Trump introduces himself, a response comes, “Donald, who?” highlighting the film’s setting at a time when Trump was not yet well-known. When Trump asks Cohn, “How do you always win?” Cohn replies, “There are rules.”
Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, the trailer’s description reads: “A young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry second son of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé—someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.”
Besides Stan and Strong, The Apprentice features Maria Bakalova, Martin Donovan, Ben Sullivan and Charlie Carrick as Ivana Trump, Fred Trump, Russell Eldridge and Fred Trump Jr, respectively. The film had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2024, and is set to be released in the United States on October 11.
