Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, the much hyped sequel of the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is releasing in Indian theatres on Thursday and the first reactions to the film suggest that this one will be worth a trip to the cinemas. The animated movie’s events kick off one year after the first movie’s end and sets up Miles Morales to save Spider-people of every universe. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, the film’s voice cast features Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, among others.

The Chicago Tribune called Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse a “dazzling sequel” and mentioned that the film “looks like a dream”. “The look is right: animation unafraid to evoke not just the visual influences of comic books, but animation in hurtling, accelerated motion — this thing gives you something to relish every millisecond — daring you to keep up,” read a part of the review.

Comicbook.com’s Aaron Perine tweeted that the movie “lives up to the hype in every conceivable way! Miles Morales absolutely shines in his second Marvel movie adventure. Gwen Stacy takes her place at the head of this table too. Tons of heart on display in every corner of this one.”

CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell tweeted that Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is “one step above Masterpiece”. “It’s an actual work of art. Every frame deserves to be hung in a museum. The jokes and nods to Spidey lore are perfect. It’s OUTSTANDING. The best Spider-Man movie. Might be my favorite movie ever. Cherish it,” the tweet read further.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Brian Davids said the film is “another resounding win for the Lord Miller-produced universe”. “Hailee Steinfeld really comes into her own as Gwen Stacy, and her scenes with Shea Whigham’s Captain Stacy are truly special. It’s darker and sadder than I expected, but necessary,” he wrote.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Tessa Smith was impressed by the twists in the film and tweeted, “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse raised the bar with its unique animation style and way of storytelling. Minds were blown when it was released and fans thought there was no way it could be topped. Think again. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse raises its own bar which seemed impossible.”

Collider’s Steven Weintraub opined, “Absolutely loved Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Wanted to push pause about a hundred times to study the incredible artistry on display. Cannot recommend this film enough and already looking forward to seeing it again.”
