After delivering the biggest Hollywood opening of the year, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer continued to dominate the box office in India on its second day. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in an impressive Rs 17 crore on its second day, bringing its total collection to Rs 31.50 crore to date.

On July 21, Oppenheimer achieved the highest opening for a Hollywood film in India, surpassing Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which had earned Rs 12.50 crore on its opening day. Oppenheimer garnered Rs 14.50 crore on its first day. However, the film witnessed an even greater audience turnout on Saturday, with a substantial Rs 17 crore collection across all languages. On Saturday, the movie recorded an overall 59.99 percent English occupancy.

Internationally, Oppenheimer is facing tough competition against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie but so far, the Indian market is favouring Nolan’s film as Barbie’s first two day collection here stands at Rs 11.50 crore.

Oppenheimer portrays the life of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who was appointed by Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves during World War II to lead the Manhattan Project. He was the leader of the team of scientists behind the creation of the world’s first atomic bombs.

Starring Cillian Murphy as J Robert Oppenheimer, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon in pivotal roles.

Critics have lavished praise on Oppenheimer, with The Indian Express critic Shalini Langer giving it 4.5 stars and stating, “Nolan isn’t attempting to dazzle with high-concept science in Oppenheimer, focusing less on the technicalities of fusion and fission, uranium and plutonium, and more on delving into the inner universe of the man who would become the father of the atom bomb.”
