Netflix drops teaser for limited series Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro. Watch

Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael Schmidt have created the television series with Lesli Linka Glatter in the director’s chair. Known for award-winning and head-turning shows such as Homeland, Ray Donovan, and The Newsroom, it is safe to say that she understands the brief of her mission.

Accompanying legend Robert De Niro will be a star-studded cast including Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, and Angela Bassett. While talent of this magnitude is enough to pull any sinking narrative out of the sinkhole, the first look of the film looks promising.

The teaser opens with chaos and the clear absence of law and order, with De Niro’s character explaining the damage they incurred due to the attack. It’s made clear that whosoever orchestrated this event is planning to do it again. Hence, the need for sanctioning a new line of defence presents itself to the authorities.

While we don’t know much about who is on whose side, it is evident that the storyline does not depend solely on the distinction of black and white, good or bad. Questionable tactics and the relentless determination to eradicate threats at least set the tone for a layered and complicated narrative. The ball is teed up. Let’s see whether it ends in the sand trap, the green, or will it be a hole in one?
