Matthew Perry, fondly remembered as the sarcastic and funny Chandler Bing from Friends, died on October 28. The 54-year-old died of an apparent drowning at his Los Angeles home. While his Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow released a statement then, two of them — Matt and Courteney — took to social media on Tuesday to pay their tribute to their friend.

Matt, who played Joey in the hit series, shared some photos with Matthew as he bid his final goodbye. He also mentioned how the times they spent together were among his favourites, and that he would ‘never forget’ him. Calling him his brother, Matt wrote an emotional note asking Matthew to now fly free.

He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”

The photos, stills from Friends, have Matt and Matthew sharing some candid moments together. He also posted photos of them hugging each other, while another one of the six castmates was in a huddle on the set.

Matthew Perry’s on-screen wife Monica, Courteney Cox also paid her tribute to the late actor, as she shared a fond memory with him. She also revealed how Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a ‘one-night fling’ but the audience’s reaction made the writers kickstart a love story between them. She fondly remembered Matthew as a ‘funny and kind’ friend and mentioned how she misses him everyday.

Courteney also shared a BTS clip from the moment when audiences get to know about Chandler-Monica spending the night together. She wrote how Matthew ‘whispered a funny line’ for her to say when they rolled.

“I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day. When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites. To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind. ,” Courteney wrote.

Earlier, in a statement shared to People’s magazine, Matthew Perry’s co-stars said, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
