Are Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds really feuding? Fans think their worst fear about the Deadpool & Wolverine duo might finally be coming true after Jackman called out Reynolds for cutting him out of a dance number—and giving himself the spotlight instead. While performing at his NYC show From New York, With Love, Jackman, who was reminiscing about how much fun he had shooting the 2024 movie, said that although he had the “time of his life,” there was just “one little gripe.”
“Don’t tell Ryan… I don’t need to be in every scene in the movie,” Jackman quipped while performing at Radio City Music Hall. Turns out, the one scene in the Marvel movie he wasn’t in happened to be the opening dance sequence—the one set to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”. According to a video obtained by the Daily Mail, Jackman claims Reynolds was behind the idea. “But Ryan is a writer. And when I see the script, I see that the scene that I’m not in is the opening sequence, which is a dance number to an NSYNC song by Ryan. It stung really hard,” Jackman said.
He then took a cheeky jab at his co-star: “I’m like, the one scene I’m not in has dance. Now Ryan, he’s very talented, but dancing?” Fans couldn’t agree more—for them, Hugh Jackman is a Broadway legend. A scene with music and dancing should’ve had him written all over it. But the 56-year-old didn’t stop there. He joked that Ryan Reynolds had to even bring in a dance double, Nick Pauley, who is “like 25 years old.” He added, “There is no way I would try and match Ryan’s dance double Nick Pauley.” After giving his audience a good laugh, Jackman revealed he too brought his own secret weapon, his trainer and ex-dancer Beth Lewis, to fix the injustice done to his scene and recreate the “dance that got away.” Together, they performed to NSYNC’s hit, and the crowd loved it.
While it doesn’t look like a real beef between the two, the timing couldn’t be worse. And it all circles back to Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, who is currently embroiled in a legal back-and-forth with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. Both Reynolds and Lively have been accused of interfering with creative scenes. Back in December 2024, Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a smear campaign against her, among other wild claims. Baldoni filed a countersuit against Blake, Ryan, and their publicist Leslie Sloane. He accused them of defamation and extortion.

Some fans think Hugh Jackman was sneakily calling Ryan Reynolds out (not just for the dance number). But others brushed it off as just another pals-goofing-around moment, pointing out how Reynolds even attended Jackman’s show in January. During the opening night of the event, Reynolds showed up for a surprise Q&A (or as he called it, a “Hugh & A”), cracking jokes and even delivering a heartfelt tribute to the Broadway legend. He called Jackman the “first major movie star” he ever worked with. “I love this man. He is genuinely the best human being I know. And I have four children!” Reynolds said.
In addition to raking in $1.34 billion at the box office, the third installment of the Deadpool franchise boasts an impressive 78% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and an even more impressive 94% audience score.
