Heart of Stone trailer: Alia Bhatt debuts as sinister villain, challenges Gal Gadot’s superspy in Netflix action-thriller
Alia Bhatt, Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan debuted the first trailer for Netflix's upcoming spy movie Heart of Stone at the Tudum fan event in Brazil.

Netflix on Sunday debuted the first trailer for its upcoming spy-action film Heart of Stone. Starring Gal Gadot as a lethal secret agent, alongside Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt, Heart of Stone has been designed as a potential franchise-starter for Netflix. The lead trio debuted the trailer at the streamer’s Tudum event in Brazil.
“You know what you signed up for,” Gadot’s character, Rachel Stone, is told in the opening moments of the trailer. “No friends, no relationships, what we do is important.” Stone, it is revealed, is a member of a secret agency called the Charter. They take over ‘when governments fail’. They have ‘the most highly trained agents’ and ‘no political leanings’ or any ‘national allegiances’. They work together to maintain peace in a turbulent world.
The trailer reveals the globe-trotting nature of the movie, which was shot in Italy, London and Lisbon, and teases some high-stakes action scenes involving a snowy chase, multiple fist-fights, and more. It is also revealed that everybody is chasing after a MacGuffin called ‘the Heart’ — this is the object that gives the Charter its ‘power’. Somewhat surprisingly, it seems like Alia is playing the villain in the movie. Her character steals the Heart and challenges Rachel: “Now you answer to me,” she says with a smile on her face.

Espionage action remains a very popular genre, both on streaming and theatrically. Earlier this year, another Indian star kicked off her own globe-trotting spy franchise. But Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden’s Prime Video series Citadel wasn’t quite as well-received as they’d have liked. Last year, the Russo brothers debuted their own big-budget spy franchise for Netflix, the Ryan Gosling-starrer The Gray Man. And in just under a month, fans across the globe will get to watch the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible series, Dead Reckoning Part One.
Directed by Tom Harper, Heart of Stone also stars Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi and Paul Ready. The movie will debut on Netflix on August 11, just in time for Independence Day in India.
