Dune Part Two India box office collection day 2: Timothee Chalamet’s sci-fi film earns over Rs 7 crore

Dune Part Two box office collection: The sci-fi spectacle has emerged as the first major blockbuster of 2024, and is eyeing a worldwide opening weekend haul above $170 million.

Dune Part Two is gaining momentum at the Indian box office, with the Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya-starrer recording good numbers in two days. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film netted Rs 3.66 crore on Saturday, after an opening day haul of Rs 2.75 crore in India.

The two-day collection of the film, which had limited paid previews on Thursday, now stands at Rs 7.11 cr all India nett. The Saturday numbers of the film, which saw a jump of 33 percent from its opening day, indicate the film has found an acceptance with its target audience. The film’s total is likely to cross the double-digit mark by the opening weekend.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is a sequel to the 2021 Dune, and is the second installment of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Dune Part Two has emerged as the first major blockbuster of the year.

The film had an opening day of $32.2 million in the US, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is looking to earn $75 million in North America in its opening weekend. This would be “almost double the first film”, whose opening stood at $41 million in the three days.

Globally, too, Dune 2 is putting up solid numbers, with the film grossing over $74.6 million so far and eyeing a worldwide opening weekend haul in the range of $170 million-$195 million (around Rs 1500 crore).

Shalini Langer in her review for The Indian Express had called the film “bigger, bolder and more beautiful” and gave it a four star rating. “In all respects, Part Two is a superior effort, an exemplar of cinema’s imagination and possibilities, from the grandeur of its landscapes to the intimacy of its characters,” a part of the review read.
