The late-night talk show hosts are continuing their critique of President Donald Trump, and Stephen Colbert of The Late Show was provided cannon fodder from the internet and the White House staff itself. During the previous week, one of the trending searches on Google was ‘Trump dead’, because rumours surfaced that the President might have passed away and a statement by Vice-President JD Vance added to the confusion. Colbert addressed the rumours and revealed what he thought the man in the highest office of the country was doing with all his free time.
While delivering his opening monologue, Colbert stated how he was taken off guard with the Trump news when he returned to work after a well-deserved break. He said, “When I came to the office, I learnt that the biggest story of the weekend was social media rumours speculating about the death of Donald Trump. For the record, Donald is very much alive, and we like our presidents alive. This whole crazy rumour started because Trump had zero events on his schedule last Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Someone reported that the only proof that he was still alive was music coming from the White House, which I got to say isn’t the strongest proof of life.”
Vice President JD Vance also came in Colbert’s sights, and he said, “Vice President JD Vance was asked by USA Today whether he is ready to take over the role of Commander-In-Chief if Trump passed away. He said, ‘The president is in incredibly good health and has incredible energy. While most of the people working with him are younger than him, we find that he is usually the last person to go to sleep, and he is the last person making phone calls at night.’ Okay, so the president doesn’t sleep and makes phone calls all night, proof that he is completely healthy, or he is running a phone-sex line.”
Colbert pointed out that Trump and his White House staff need to get more aligned regarding what excuses to make, as both parties had different answers to a video that surfaced online, in which black bags were being thrown out of the Lincoln bedroom.
“There is nothing mysterious going on at the White House, not even this video which shows someone dropping black bags out of the Lincoln bedroom. A little weird, but an official cleared everything up and said, ‘A contractor was doing regular maintenance while the President was gone.’ That is perfectly normal, right? Until Trump was asked about it, and he said, ‘That is all AI generated. ‘That is the problem with AI; if something bad happens, you can just blame it.’ But you just blamed AI, and does that mean something bad actually happened?”
