Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer took the stage at CinemaCon to talk about F1, their latest high-speed racing drama starring Brad Pitt. The duo, who previously delivered Top Gun: Maverick, hinted that this could be one of the “summer’s biggest movie events.” Pitt leads the cast alongside Damson Idris and Javier Bardem, with Warner Bros. and Apple teaming up to bring the film to theaters.

To prove that F1 is more than just hype, Kosinski and Bruckheimer debuted the first 10 minutes of the film at CinemaCon. The racing footage featured heart-pounding race sequences at Daytona. During the event, Kosinski was full of praise for Pitt’s dedication, claiming that the actor drove at speeds of 180 miles per hour during filming. F1 follows Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who was forced into early retirement. The story develops when a team owner, played by Javier Bardem, convinces him to come back and mentor a rookie driver, played by Damson Idris. Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies are also joining the case. “We filled your theaters all summer long [with ‘Top Gun: Maverick’] to the tune of $1.5 billion. We’re here to tell you that we’re ready to do it again,” The F1 director added, according to Variety.

Earlier during a press event, Kosinski revealed that Pitt had a natural ability for racing. “ I don’t know where he got that or if he was born with it, and he rides motorcycles, which I think has something to do with it,” the filmmaker said, according to the Hollywood reporter.  Even Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton was impressed after seeing Pitt’s skills behind the wheel. “We shot this film during real Grand Prix races all across the globe, from Abu Dhabi to Silverstone, including right here on the Vegas Strip,” Bruckheimer said. According to the producer, the film will have everything from action to emotion and romance.
