The much-awaited Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling released on Friday. After collecting Rs 5 crore in India on opening day, the film earned Rs 6.5 crore here on Saturday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings its total two-day collection to Rs 11.5 crore.

As per the website, the Greta Gerwig directorial enjoyed a 53.67 percent occupancy in the English shows. Given that the film’s subject caters to kids as well, the evening shows are the most in-demand followed by afternoon, night, and morning.

The family entertainer with a tinge of social commentary released alongside Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, affecting its opening. The biopic had an upper hand in India having already earned Rs 31.5 crore in two days. Interestingly, while Oppenheimer led in India, Barbie has performed better in the US and earned almost twice the amount as compared to Nolan’s film. As per Hollywood Reporter, Barbie opened to $70.5 million on Friday, whereas Oppenheimer collected $33 million.

Barbie may have impressed the audience but reviewers had their share of criticism for the film. However, they did laud the performance of the lead stars Margot and Ryan. In her review for The Indian Express, Shalini Langer wrote, “The dazzling Robbie is never not beautiful. She is also never just beautiful. She awes your eyes, but she also warms your hearts. She can be anything, and you can look beyond that blond hair, boobs and body to identify with this. Gosling has a much smaller role, though his dilemma as the superfluous Ken plays out more fulfillingly. But again, like Robbie, Gosling is an actor of latent charm, who can stride into a room and own it, or let his woman do her thing.”

Commenting on the director’s job, she added, “Gerwig is smart in choosing these two charismatic actors to play her leads. If only her Barbie and Ken matched up to them — in either the plastic, or the fantastic.” Barbie also stars America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Lu, Michael Cera and Ariana Greenblatt, among others.
