Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk has been arrested in Florida on federal charges for allegedly organising a 2022 revenge killing in Los Angeles. Authorities claim Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, arranged the attempted murder of rapper Quando Rondo, resulting in the death of Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.

Durk, 32, faces a conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire charge. Five other members of his Chicago-based rap group, “Only the Family” (OTF), have also been arrested, with additional arrests expected, according to court documents.

The FBI alleges Durk funded the August 2022 attack, purportedly orchestrating flights and accommodations for OTF members. They allegedly tracked Rondo in Los Angeles, ultimately ambushing him at a gas station, which led to Robinson’s death.

The indictment traces the feud back to the 2020 killing of OTF rapper King Von, who died following a fight with Rondo’s crew in Atlanta. Durk reportedly offered a “bounty” on Rondo following Von’s death, according to an affidavit by FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran.

Following the 2022 incident, Durk allegedly attempted to flee the US, booking flights to Dubai, Switzerland, and Italy. He was arrested in Miami while attempting to board a private flight to Europe.

Durk, who recently won a Grammy for “All My Life” with J. Cole, had also been honoured by Chicago suburbs for his charitable efforts. However, in light of the charges, Broadview’s mayor has severed ties with his charity, citing community values.

The defendants remain in custody and are expected to be transferred to Los Angeles for trial.
