Main Hoon Na actor Zayed Khan recently shared how his elder son Zidaan Khan struggled with a major respiratory problem throughout most of his childhood and teenage years. In a recent interaction, he revealed that Zidaan experienced a massive respiratory attack in London, which put him in a life-and-death situation. He also shared watching his son suffer led him into a period of depression.

Speaking with his Main Hoon Na co-star Amrita Rao on her YouTube Channel Couple of Things – Amrita Rao I RJ Anmol, Zayed said, “My elder son Zidaan had a very big respiratory problem at the age of 3. We were in London when he had a particularly bad attack. He came to me and said, ‘Papa help me, I can’t breathe.’ My wife is very strong when it comes to dealing with medical emergencies, and she immediately called an ambulance, which arrived in 15 minutes. It was a life-and-death situation.”

He continued, “The nurse nodded at us, indicating that he wasn’t sure if Zidaan will survive. He took out an adrenaline injection and asked for my permission to inject it into Zidaan. I have to credit the healthcare system in London—they immediately called four doctors from all over the city to the hospital. They were prepared to do surgery, where they would have had to cut his throat if the steroids didn’t work. We were in so much agony because there is nothing worse than the thought of losing a child. Thankfully, after a couple of hours, the steroids started working, and they didn’t need to proceed with the surgery.”

Zayed Khan also revealed that following the incident, all the doctors told him that Zidaan would likely have to live with this condition and would never be a completely healthy child. However, Zayed chose not to let this diagnosis dictate his son’s life. He encouraged Zidaan to participate in outdoor activities like parkour and high jump. The actor proudly shared that his son is now the fittest child and has a “fantastic body”. He added, “He has defied every doctor who told him he couldn’t do certain things.”

Zayed explained that the respiratory attack in London wasn’t an isolated incident. Even though Zidaan eventually overcame the disease, he had to be in and out of the ICU from the ages of 5 to 15. Zayed admitted that watching his son suffer for such a prolonged period led him into depression. “I went through a lot of depression at that time. I prayed to God, ‘You can do this to him. Take me but don’t do this to him.’ It felt so unfair for a kid to go through this,” he shared.

Zayed Khan married Malaika in 2005. They welcomed Zidaan in 2008 and their younger son, Ariz, in 2011.
