A young Ranveer Singh was excited to be on a movie set, but moments later, he was heartbroken after being escorted off it. The reason? He was caught ogling at Raveena Tandon when she was shooting for “Tip Tip Barsa Paani” with actor Akshay Kumar. In an old interview, Ranveer opened up about the time he saw Akshay and Raveena on set for the first time, and what happened next.

In an appearance on former journalist Rajeev Masand’s 2015 roundtable, he was joined by Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan. Ranveer narrated the story and recalled how Akshay made him feel less awkward after he was escorted off set.

“Raveena was wearing a white saree,” he said, as Akshay interrupted to correct him: “It was yellow.” Ranveer continued, “I was a boy, and I was ogling at Raveena ji. I was watching her with my eyes wide open, so she was getting a little uncomfortable. She asked one of the security guys to escort me away. For me, that was shattering. I was heartbroken that I was told to leave the set. I am almost in tears, when I feel this man’s hand on my shoulders.”

But then, the story took a turn, when Ranveer realised that someone had stepped in to make his day better–Akshay. “I look behind and I see this shining aura of a man, Akshay Kumar. He says, ‘I like your haircut’. I was thrilled! He obviously saw how bad I was feeling because I was asked to leave and he did that. I got a picture with him, and said to myself, ‘Man, one day I am going to be like that guy.'” When Varun asked if he got to take a picture with Raveena, Ranveer said quietly, “No”, as everyone laughed.

Decades after the story, Ranveer and Akshay collaborated on Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi. The cop universe film featured Akshay in the titular role, while Ranveer played his goofy character, Simmba.

The two will be next seen together reprising the same roles in Singham 3. The third installment of the Ajay Devgn-led franchise is expected to release this August, with reports also doing the rounds that it might shift to a later date– Diwali 2024. Akshay Kumar is currently seen in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
